Super easy one for today.

Who wrote these controversial lines?

“There is a moment of regret, followed by vast sadness. Then comes a tidal wave of euphoria that sweeps away every negative thought in my head. I’ve never felt so alive, so hopeful — and I’ve never felt such energy.

“I’m seized by a desperate desire to clean. I go tearing around my house, cleaning it from top to bottom. I dust the furniture. I scour the tub. I make the beds.”

Answer = Andre Agassi of course, describing his crystal meth intake in his serialized autobiography and successfully ruining his reputation 3 years after retirement

Today comes the first guest question of the blog – from Matti! 🙂

Shown below is a guy who will easily be the oldest cricketer alive, IF he is alive. (He is presumed dead). He is only one of two Indians to achieve a certain feat. His dad is known as the “Father of Chennai Cricket“. Id this guy, the feat, the other guy who achieved the feat and his dad. Part points for getting any two right.

Answer = This is Cota Ramaswami, son of Buchi Babu (of the “Tournament” fame). Cota is one of 2 Indian double internationals (having played cricket and tennis), the other being M.J. Gopalan (who played cricket and hockey).

Full points to Rohit and Aditya!

Dry question for today:

Which sporting team takes its name from the name given to the gold prospectors who arrived in Northern California during the California Gold Rush in the middle of the 19th century?

Answer = San Francisco 49ers. The gold prospectors were called 49ers as the Gold Rush started in 1849.

2 : 1

3 : ?

Answer = Givanildo Vieira de Souza, the footballer who plays for Porto got his nickname Hulk, because of his resemblance to actor Lou Ferrigno, who played Hulk on TV. Similarly, the Argentinian footballer Sergio Aguero got his nickname “Kun”, because of his resemblance to the Japanese anime character Kun Kun.

Many got the Hulk part right, but only Vinod got the Sergio Aguero part. So only he gets full points.

Who is this a tribute to?

In case you guys think this is too tough and need a clue, am putting a small one: the guy himself!

Answer = Jackie Robinson, famous for breaking the color line in baseball when he played for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. Won the World Series with them in 1955. He also played basketball, football and took part in athletics while studying in the UCLA, which explains the photo :-).

And the number 42 jersey was retired throughout the MLB in 1997 as a tribute to Robinson, though a few were allowed to wear it later.  The rotunda of the new ballpark of the New York Mets, Citi Field (which opened on April 16, 2009) honors Robinson with large quotations spanning the inner curve of the facade and features a large freestanding statue of his number, 42, which has become an attraction in itself.

And our third weekly winner is Partha Sarathi Ghatak, who finally won after finishing 2nd in the previous 2 weeks!!! Congrats!!! 🙂
